Bamenda: Woman Now Lives In Kitchen, After Fire Ravaged Her House

Many inhabitants of Mbengwi road, a residential area in Mezam division, Bamenda in the North West region have been rendered homeless.
This is after their homes and business places were reportedly set ablazed on Wednesday December 8, by men in military uniform.
Over forty houses, including business places, cars and other properties were lost in the incident.

Madam Tumasang, a victim of the fire incident lost all her property plus her entire compound in Wednesday's incident, which has been condemned by many as 'barbaric'
According to the woman who has retired to her kitchen as a new home, the men in military uniform who carried out the barbaric act on her building are allege government forces.
Below is an interview that Madam Tumasang granted Promo Info News at her ravaged compound. We have kept her other name and pictures for her security purposes.
"It was at about 3:15pm that i was inside with my grandson. I heard a very large explosion that sounded like a bomb. I felt on the ground and later heard sounds of the gun allover. I later heard footsteps around my house and I saw military men who surrended my house. Before I knew, smoke was coming out of this building, i could not go out because of gunshots. I heard them speaking in French and I stayed mute with my grandson.

Before I knew, they came again with two gallons of petrol and I sneaked out through the backdoor with this little child and I saw my whole compound on fire," Tumasang said.
Madam Tumasang added that even her identification card and other important documents were burnt in the house.
"Even my identification card, my children's documents, certificates and computers got burnt, even a single dress i didn't take from the house," she added

The woman who is now left with nothing was also having tenants who owned shops under her. She added that non of their things were saved.
"It was this morning that I saw my tenants, who own salons and a small poultry, all their properties also got burnt," she said

Before the incident occurred, the woman was home alone with her grandson. She is now having only a section of her kitchen which was not touched by the fire. Hopeless and frustrated, she now lives in the kitchen with the little child.
"I thank God for the kitchen which is the only place that we are living there for now," she said
At the Hospital Roundabout neighborhood, at least eight shops were set ablazed, with all its contents consumed by fire. Several vehicles belonging to civilians were also set ablazed.

While at the scene, we were told the firefighting agents did not come to rescue the civilians, while authorities in the North West region have not altered even a word concerning the incident.
The exact number of people and property lost in Wednesday's fire incident is yet to be known, considering the fact that some of the areas are still unsafe to access and some inhabitants are still missing.

"It has been more than 24 hours now, i don't even know where my children are, i am totally confused and don't know where to go. I left the village thinking this place was safe," another victim lamented out of frustration.
Inhabitants of the affected areas also told Promo Info News that at least three persons were killed in the battle, which was between government soldiers and separatist fighters.
According to information gathered, separatist fighters detonated an explosive at a small junction, which destroyed a military vehicle and also rendered many of the security officials who were on patrol seriously injured.

We could not get confirmed information if the three persons killed were civilians, government officers or separatist fighters, because authorities are still silent and the affected population is running out of the area for safety.
