Five UBa Students To Represent North West At CAYS In Yaounde

Some students of the University of Bamenda have received cheques as prizes for participating in the 2sd edition of "3 minutes to convince CAYS"
This was the outcome of a one day workshop recently held at the Bamenda university campus, organized by the Cameroon Academy of Young Scientists, CAYS aimed at enhancing science communication amongst staff and students.
The five students currently enroll into Masters and PhD programs will represent the region during the up coming National edition of Cameroon Academy of Young Scientists, CAYS to be held in Yaounde on May 27, 2022.
The workshop that brought together science students from the university of Bamenda, took place under the theme "Made in Cameroon for industrialization and sustainable economic development".
The over eight Masters and PhD students who summited their projects for the competition at the regional level, first five students were carefully selected by a jury and awarded to represent the region at the national level in Yaounde.
After winning the first prize for presenting her project in three minutes titled "Prevalence of isoniazid drug resistant mycobacterium tuberculosis clinical isolates in Cameroon," Nono Vanessa Ninkeh, a Biochemistry PhD student said her aim is to completely eradicate tuberculosis.
"We are being faced with the challenge of resistance. For us to completely eradicate this disease, we must first find out the mechanism where the resistance come about...if we can easily detect this drug resistant tuberculosis, we will be able to manage it and it will reduce the rate in our communities," Nono Vanessa said

Other four students include; Tashie Evangeline, Abonge Laura, Ballack Ravin and Leberarus Alangeh.
Speaking during the workshop, Professsor Emmanuel Suh Cheo, Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Teaching, Professionalization and Development of Information and Communication Technologies who represented the Vice Chancellor encouraged the students to always go in for such opportunities so that they can have data for future projects.
"A program like this inspires students and young colleagues to see the need to make sure that their research remains excellent so that they can make significant progress in their carrier and also contribute to development," Prof Emmanuel Suh Cheo said
The programme which is under the patronage of the ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation will end on May 27, 2022 in Yaounde at the national level, where five participants from each region shall meet to see who is able to convince CAYS in his/her project within three minutes to back home the sum of 500, 000frs plus other opportunities.
