CAF President Order For Investigations, Move Matches Out Of Olembe Stadium

The president of the Confederation of African Football, CAF has moved all matches that were supposed to take place at the Olembe stadium over the weekend.

Dr Patrice Motsepe was speaking Tuesday 25 January during a press conference in Yaounde, after a stampede occurred at the stadium.

"There's zero tolerance on circumstances that could result to people being injured or losing their lives, we have to take emergency now," Patrice Motsepe said, adding that he has called the Local Organizing Committee meeting tomorrow

According to the CAF boss, all matches that were programmed at the Stadium will instead hold at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, over the weekend.

He said this is because serious investigations have been launched to see what actually transpired at the stadium.

"The Local Organizing Committee is responsible for the safety and security of the people, but we are partners," CAF president said

He added that the investigations will run till Friday.

The ministry of communication has confirmed that 8 people died and 38 others were injured when Cameroon was playing Comoros on Monday.

According to minister Rene Emmanuel Sadi, the incident resulted from overcrowding at way into the stadium.

The minister said the injured ones are receiving treatment at a hospital in Yaounde.

Government authorities including the minister of Territorial Administration and the minister of health have visited the scene and the injured ones at the Yaounde central hospital.

Mount Cameroon Race: Lady Dies From Explosion Wounds

At least one victim of the Buea explosions, which occurred during the 2023 edition of the Mount Cameroon race of hope is dead. Family sources in Buea have confirmed that Linda Nji died at the Buea regional hospital early Tuesday February 28, 2023. The victim was injured together with her three children in one amongst the three explosions that occurred few minutes into the race on Saturday. "They stood outside watching the race at Bunduma where an explosive went off and injured all of them," a source said. They were later on rushed to the Buea regional hospital, where they have been receiving treatment until Tuesday morning at about 4am when the later died. Report say she died in the presence of her husband and her remains were conveyed to the hospital mortuary, pending burial.
