North West: Missing Fon Of Mbei Village Found

For seven days, the people of Mbei village in Santa subdivision in the North West region have been looking for their Fon, who went missing on January 3, 2022.
And the new Fon has been found, who will continue ruling the people of Mbei. Fon Mokom Njei II was presented to the people of Mbei village and the entire world on January 12, 2022, after he successfully undergone through all the traditional rituals.
Born in 1971, the 50 year old traditional ruler is taking over from his father, the previous Fon who died on January 3, after serving his people for more than 50 years.
According to Prince Ayafor Edwin of the Mbei Palace, tradition demands them to present a new Fon to the village, after one week.
"This is a very powerful ceremony in the history of the Mbei people. In the history of Mbei, when the Fon is missing, it takes seven days for another to be made known. This new Fon can only come out from the Nkuifon," Prince Ayafor Edwin said
Ayafor Edwin added that about twenty Nkuifons from the North West region took part in searching of the new Fon.
While on his side, Ngu Ivo president of the Mbei Cultural and Development Association MBEICUDA, said God has granted their wish with a friendly Fon.
"This is a very important event for us the Mbei people because we have been crying, mourning and after searching for one week, we got this new one. We are asking for wisdom and knowledge upon the new Fon so that there shall be unity and oneness in our community," Ngu Ivo said
According to the traditions and custom of the Mbei people, the princesss and prince usually have a key role to play in chosing the Fon, considering the fact that they will be the ones to give him advice.

The new Fon was taken to the shrines and some incantations were poured on him, as the traditional authorities said some words in the dialect, crowning him as the new Fon before he was presented to the population.
Speaking at the ceremony, Akum Emmanuel Achu , chairman of the village traditional council in his speech, made it known to the people that the Mbei people have lived in their land for about one hundred years.
Akum Emmanuel added to the press that the traditional council which is being headed by him will support the new phone in everything that he is up to.

"He brought a hospital, school, roads and many other developmental projects when he was not yet the Fon, so with his coming to power, we believe he is going to do more than that, Akum Emmanuel added
Present during the ceremony were other traditional rulers like the Fon of Santa, Fon of Awing, Fon of Babungo and many others who equally came to pledge their support to the new traditional ruler. The Fons urged their new colleague to listen mostly to his people and attend to their worries in order to live long.
Quoting from the laws that organizes traditional rulers and chiefdoms, Jules Nkolo, Senior Divisional Officer for Santa recognizes Fon Mokom Njei II as a good and dynamic leader. DO Jules Nkolo also urged him to work in hand with the administration, as he pledge his full support to the new Fon.

The Ceremony ended with paying of homage to the missing Fon and pledging of support to the new one, as dance groups headed by the village council graced the event with singing and dancing.
